When companies or businesses consider undergoing precautions in any building, most direct their attention to the equipment such as alarms, fire extinguishers, or other items. However, arguably the most important and notably unnoticed piece of equipment is, you guessed it, emergency and exit lighting.
Knowing this, would your building or facility be prepared for an unforeseen power outage? Would employees be able to safely exit a building with confidence? Areas such as stairwells or small spaces with little or no natural light can be extremely difficult to navigate. For the benefit of those within a facility, installing exit lighting is crucial.
According to a Harris Poll, more than a third of U.S workers would not feel confident navigating through their building safely in the case of a power outage. In addition, the poll concluded that 50 percent of U.S adults would not feel confident in their ability to walk safely up and down stairs in the case of an emergency.
Unfortunately, despite the importance, lighting is often overlooked by facility managers whose job it is to install and maintain. The importance of light in these scenarios will allow future events to be safer and bring confidence to workers that they can exit without concern.
The solution: photoluminescent lighting. This lighting, in particular, allows for easy installment, low maintenance and long shelf life.
